Before starting a craft, identify the output, ingredients, station and unlock. Missing any one of these creates misleading shopping lists. A recipe visible in a guide may still be unusable because the station or technology is unavailable, so verify the whole chain in your current save.

Calculate backward

Begin with the final quantity needed and work backward through intermediate batches. Round up only where the station produces fixed batches, then reuse the remainder in another planned craft. This is faster and safer than making a large generic stockpile of every intermediate component.

Protect bottleneck materials

Separate common renewable inputs from gated or slow inputs. Logs and stone can often be replenished; quest components, advanced metals or specialized products may block several systems at once. Reserve bottlenecks for the active objective and label storage by production family.

Test automation in one loop

When adding a worker, automate one recipe chain before connecting several. Confirm input delivery, station access, output capacity and overflow behavior. Only expand after the loop runs unattended; otherwise a failure in one container can silently stop the entire factory.
