Buy the bottleneck
Purchase materials that unlock a station, quest or production loop. Common renewable resources are usually poor routine purchases unless time is the actual bottleneck. The right question is what the item enables now.
Check trade progression
A seller's useful stock may require a later trade level. Confirm both the trader and the level before planning a route around an item. If the stock is unavailable, identify the craft or alternate seller rather than repeatedly revisiting the shop.
Combine shopping routes
Group purchases with nearby dialogue, hand-ins and resource collection. Carry a written list and leave reserve currency for unexpected progression gates. Repeated single-item trips are a hidden cost.
Preserve production knowledge
Buying an item solves today's shortage but does not replace knowing how to produce it. Record the craft and workstation even when purchasing is faster, so later automation can replace the recurring expense.
